Journal #7
Choice C: So far, is this a novel about race? Class? Gender? Coming of Age? Place? Select and defend your answer.
Answer: Really, To Kill A Mockingbird is a book on all of them. It deals with racism, as shown during Tom Robinson's trial. It deals with class, how the Ewell's are treated and the Cunninghams. Gender? Scout faces issues with her own brother, as he, more recently, has started dismissing Scout for Dill. Coming of age is part of that, as well. Jem feels that now that he is more grown up, he shouldn't hang out with girls so much, as to keep his manhood. The main reason we are reading this book is because it encompasses all these different subjects, why it is such a popular book these days, I think. That is what I think this novel is about.
