journal #3
Chapters 8-9
Perspective: Atticus
I never thought it would snow in Maycomb. I've heard about it, cold wet slushy stuff, but it's about as remote to Maycomb as a hundred dollar bill. I really think Jem will grow up to be a lawyer just like me. He has the dedication and the smarts to take on any one of the townsfolk even now. I saw his dedication today, as there was maybe an inch of snow, and yet he attempted to build a snowman, and succeeded!
Tommorow:
Today I woke up at midnight, awakened by the yells of Mr. Avery and other neighbors. I also heard a crackling noise, but I thought it was the stove, until I stepped outside. The sky, lit up by the minimal light produced by the moon, was shrouded in a dark layer of smoke. I looked around, and saw Ms. Maudies house on fire! I ran inside, and woke up the kids, telling them to stay out of the way, and wait by the Radley place. Meanwhile I ran over to the burning house and helped drag furniture out, grabbing only the most precious of Ms. Maudies possesions.
Afterwards, I comforted the kids and tried to get a little sleep before the next day.
