Journal #4- Chapters 10-12 Perspective: Atticus
When that mad dog appeared, I felt a chill down my spine, but I never thought I would have to shoot again. When the sheriff asked me to shoot it, I refused, but when the dog walked in front of the Radley place, I knew this could get ugly, so I sucked it up, and just like I used to, shot nearly dead on, just a little to the right. I wished the children didn't have to see it, but it actually felt a little nice, holding the smooth stock of the gun after so many years. I was isolated from it. My perplexity at this probably could never have matched that of Scouts, as she has never seen me shoot before.
I told Jem to be a gentleman, I told him! He says he's brave, and so he walks past Ms. Duboses house every day, tempting himself. I don't care what she says, she's a old, if ingenuous woman, and she has the right to enjoy herself before she dies. When I wasn't punishing Jem for destroying Ms. Duboses plants, although that was not nice, I was punishing him for losing his temper. i do hope he gets acquainted with the right people.
I knew that Ms. Dubose was a fanatical morphine addict ever since I saw her in the local drug store. I was buying some cough medicine, as we had run out about a year ago, and I forgot about it. I would have made Jem do something for Ms. Dubose, as I knew she was on her way out. I also think that having to read to her every saturday was a very just punishment, even if a little irrelevant.
Now that I am having to go to the capitol more often now to debate, in the big building adjacent to the library, I am having to entrust the children into the more-than-capable hands of Calpurnia. I think tat going to the black church is a  good learning experience for them.
